Hello Folks,

The summer has arrived and with the summer comes the multitude of Pride events. We will be hosting a table at this year’s Halton Pride event on Saturday, June 2nd and would love to see you all out to support us. Let’s make our booth the most lively booth at Pride! It’s a great way to get some new recruits (aka fresh meat, LOL), so come see us!

Saturday, June 2nd, 11:00am to 4:00pm
Central Park on New Street & Drury Lane, Burlington

Thanks to all the bowlers who came out to our HINT tournament last weekend. A good time was had by all and we raised $1400 for our charity, The LGBTQ Wellness Centre of Hamilton aka “The Well”

Thank you to everyone who donated prizes for the raffle and thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard to run a successful event! And a very special thanks to our tournament co-ordinator, Bill Hanes, whose vision and many hours of hard work and recruiting of bowlers made the tournament so great. You are very much appreciated!

See you all next year!

Hello Bowlers, one and all…

We are planning a group trip to Buffalo, NY to eat, drink, and be Mary.

GHBL will cover most, if not all, of the cost of the bus for this event. You will need spending money while there and a valid passport.

We need to know what weekend is best for most everyone who wants to attend.

March 24th or March 31st.

Please go to our website ghbowling.ca and look for the Buffalo or Bust poll to vote for your weekend of choice!

Thanks and spanks!

This Wednesday, January 25th, is our monthly theme night. Get out your tackiest, wackiest, funniest or most flamboyant tie and show it off for the world to see. Be inventive with your tie or even just tie yourself up. Make sure you can still bowl, of course! Don’t forget the top 3 peoples choice for best ties win a prize!

In other news, check out our website for information on the GHBL Hamilton Invitational No-tap Tournament (HINT) coming in April. You can see what it’s all about and download the entry form. Be sure to mark April 21st on your calendars! You can also check out other upcoming tournaments in the area you might want to attend.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday night, and as usual, don’t be afraid to bring a friend!

Hello Jingle-bowlers,

‘Tis the season for.. well, the end of our first season. This Wednesday will be our playoff night where first place and second place teams will square off against each other, third vs. fourth, and so on. So it’s game on!

Also, our third theme night is upon us. It’s ‘dress as your favourite Christmas carol’ night. That could be Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer or Carol Burnette in a Santa hat; be as creative as you can. Top three costumes will get a special treat.

This will be our last night before the New Year. Our 2nd season starts up again on January 4th. We hope everyone has a safe, healthy holiday! Eat, drink, and be a Mary, but please don’t drink and drive!

And finally, in the spirit of the season, we encourage you to bring a non-perishable or seven with you this week. No one needs to wake up hungry on Christmas morning.

Thanks for all the fun this year. We look forward to another exciting season of friends and fun in the new year. And don’t be afraid to invite a new friend for next year.

Hello fabulous, festive, bowling buddies,

Tis the season for spirited celebration and celebrations with spirits (and we don’t mean Ouija boards, but if that’s your thing don’t let us stop you).

This Friday, December 9th, at 8PM is our much anticipated GHBL Christmas party and I wanted to go over a few things.

First, please plan ahead for transportation if you plan on drinking. Plan to share a cab, get a DD or even wear some nice walking boots if you live close by. We’d like everyone to have a memorable time and we want it remembered for it being a good time, not for troubles on the way home.

Second, think about if your team would like to join in the gift exchange game. The limit for the gift is $20 per team. We know that’s not a lot these days but the holidays do find people’s bank accounts under the weather and this is just a fun game. That being said, you can be as creative as you want in your gifting (yes, that’s a challenge) and it’s sure to be fun. If your team wants to participate all you have to do is bring your gift to the party. If your team opts out then they can watch all the fun from the sidelines. Please make sure your gift is wrapped.

In other news, since our last theme night went SO well I’m posting the next one early AND I will remind you all closer to the date about it so I’m not the only one wearing a too small, fuscia, angry puppy sweater, and so Brian can re-attach his balls to a new outfit. It will be December 21st.

This month’s theme night will be a Christmas Carol Theme. Dress as your favourite carol, or character from a carol, or do with that theme idea what you will. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be awarded. This is also our team competition night where the first and second place teams square off against each other and so on down the line so be cautious about wearing something that you won’t blame for your loss, should you lose a game or three.

And last, but certainly not least, last year we did a canned food drive for Christmas and would like to continue to do that again this year. For the month of December if you feel generous you can bring some non-perishable food donations and we will make sure it gets to people who need it.

That is all, my lovelies!

See your shining faces tonight for another fun bowling adventure!

Hello Bowlers,

A few things to discuss this week.

First off a congratulations to Joel E.

GHBL’s Joel E had one heck of a weekend at the IGBO (International Gay Bowling Organization) Midyear Tournament this year held in Rochester NY. Joel brought home first place in the Single competition and anchored our team along with Mike C, John T and Bill H to an All Events Championship.
Joel finished 80 pins over all other competitors in Singles bowling 215, 242 and 166 over the three games adding up to 866 with Handicap. Some of the best Gay bowlers in the U.S. finished well behind him due to handicap scoring.
Joel and John also placed in Doubles, as did Mike and Bill.
We congratulate Joel on behalf off of GHBL. I hope more people take part in tournaments. All can have a good time in Singles, Doubles and Team competitions.
And you certainly don’t have to win to have fun. We’ll let you know as tournaments are announced in future.

Second, a reminder that our Christmas party will be on December 9th at 8pm at the Werx. All those who have informed us they will be attending and have not yet paid their $5 please see Shevon this week. It is also the final week to sign up so be sure to let us know if you’re coming. (Rob P, I got your note on your bowl-off and I’ve signed you and Will up to attend).

Third on the list is a reminder to subscribe to the newsletter via our new website at www.ghbowling.ca. So far only 8 people have signed up. Congrats to Ben M for being the first to subscribe!

And last, it’s that time of month again… THEME NIGHT! Next week, November 30th, will be our 2nd theme night. As the weather is getting colder we’re starting to bundle up with warmer clothes, so, in honour of the great Canadian climate, our theme will be cheesy sweaters. We’ve all had a sweater with a duck or a deer or even a cheesy holiday sweater that a relative has knitted for us at one time or another. Dig into your closets and pull them out, moth balls and all, and wear them proudly for all to see!

Looking forward to seeing you all this week (15 minutes early, of course!)
